Premier Pavel Filip: Justice reform basis of Moldova's economic development

Prime Minister Pavel Filip today participated in a ceremony on inauguration of a new restored headquarters of the Chisinau-based Court of Appeal. The PM highlighted the importance of the event for all Moldovan citizens, especially for specialists of the sector. Filip also thanked European partners for the constant support provided to reforming the justice sector.

“The modernization of this building would not have been possible without the support of our EU partners and I want to offer them thanks for the financial support, and what’s more important, for the backing they provide in expertise and consultancy for the justice sector’s reformation, as well as for working out reforms in Moldova,” Pavel Filip said.

At the same time, the prime minister stressed that, due to the building’s renovation, judges would enjoy better working conditions, this would ensure a quicker consideration of files and transparency in carrying out actions at law and trials. In the context, the prime minister referred to actions undertaken by the government to elaborate and approve laws complying with the European standards, which will provide needed instruments to do a fair justice. “I urge you to evolve further, as it is very important that you bring our citizens’ confidence in justice again. I wish success to everybody and let us carry through the justice reform, which is the basis of Moldova’s economic development,” the Prime Minister said.   

The restored building of the Chisinau Court of Appeal has an area of 7,200 square metres and comprises 13 rooms to hold actions at law and trials. The overall sum of the project on the headquarters’ restoration was 82 million lei, earmarked from the state budget and development partners.
