The national road M3 Chisinau – Giurgiulesti, connecting Chisinau and states of the Black Sea basin, will be rehabilitated. The repair works will last for three years and be carried out by a Ukrainian company.
The document provides for rehabilitation of two sections of M3 national road, with a total length of 85 km, from Comrat, Svetlii and Ciumai villages to bypass section of village Slobozia Mare. The works involve road rehabilitation and asphalting, construction of sidewalks, construction of bus stations, a bridge, a parking area and three roundabouts.
The document also provides for late payment penalties, and if the works are poor, the contractor will be required to remedy them on his own.
"It is a very important contract for us. By completion of this road rehabilitation, entrepreneurs will have lower transport costs and lower order execution terms. The persons will also be able to reach their destination more quickly, and salvation and special services will have free access," said Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Chiril Gaburici.
Chiril Gaburici mentioned very important that rehabilitation works to be carried out in established terms and be qualitative. "This road provides the connection between Chisinau and Giurgiulesti. In fact, we are now starting to rehabilitate the road which connects Chisinau with all states of the Black Sea basin," specified the minister.
The director of the Ukrainian company assured that the works would be carried out within a shorter term than stipulated in the contract. This is the first company in Ukraine involved in the repair of roads in Moldova.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure's information and media communication, the cost of construction and repair works is about €29.3 million. The contract is part of the Road Sector Programme, with EBRD financial support.
